Every year my office hosts a cookie swap and ugly sweater contest. Two years ago I was pregnant during Christmas, and didn’t want to skip on this tradition. So what’s a crafty, fun, preggo girl to do to remedy the situation? Let me introduce you to the Ugly Sweater Necklace.
All the bells and whistles (literally) that you would find in your classic Ugly Christmas Sweater. Made on the basic foundation of a bib necklace, but instead of tulle and satin, it’s made out of felt and bright grosgrain ribbon. I got busy with my glue gun, glittery pom poms, sequins, ornaments, and felt squares. I hand-stitched little christmas animals- a squirrel and, my favorite, Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey, and tied it around my neck. Instant hit. So much so that I made them for all of my girlfriends in the office.
Each one is a little different- I designed each one based on my friend’s favorite things. One of my girls always wore a Scotty Dog sweater during Christmas, and bakes Peanut Butter Kiss cookies each year for our cookie swap. The rest of the necklace is filled with glass ornaments, jewels, pom poms and bows. Instant Christmas fun!
And this Ugly Sweater necklace is how it looks in person! How fun is this?? Glass ornaments, candy canes, bows, and… Stormy, the Gosling’s ginger beer mascot! My friend served Dark & Stormys at her wedding rehearsal dinner, and she’s a big fan of the little guy. Stormy’s all decked out in a red ribbon and ready to celebrate the holiday.
