I LOVE Connecticut Open House Day! This year it’s being held on Saturday, June 8th and it’s a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of special discounts & even free admission at some places all while exploring the best CT has to offer. The day is organized by the CT Office of Tourism and they have a full list of all participating locations.

For our purposes, I’m excited to highlight some of the best kid-friendly activities and even some opportunities for you to go out with your partner!

Best Kid-Friendly Activities (These specials are only available on June 8th)

Discovery Museum, 4450 Park Ave., Bridgeport, CT {Offering HALF OFF general admission from 10-5}

Imagine Nation Children’s Museum, One Pleasant St. Bristol, CT {Offering $1 off regular admission from 11-5}

New England Carousel Museum, 95 Riverside Ave., Bristol, CT {Open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., offering free carousel rides and a chamber music concert from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.}

Creamery Brook Bison, 19 Purvis Rd., Brooklyn, CT {40-minute wagon ride to see the bison at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., followed by a craft project for children. Rides are $5 per person (normally $10).}

Chester / Hadlyme Ferry, 54 Ferry Rd. (Rte. 148), Chester, CT {FREE ferry rides from 10:30-5}

Song-a-Day Music Center, 2809 Boston Tpke., (Rte. 44), Coventry, CT {From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., offer live musical performances by the students and instructors, special discounts, instrument “petting” zoo, free drawings, and refreshments.}

Gillette Castle State Park, 67 River Rd., East Haddam, CT {FREE admission from 10-5}

Connecticut Trolley Museum, 58 North Rd., (Rte. 140), East Windsor, CT {HALF OFF regular admission 10-5}

Sweet & Simple, 75 Hillside Rd., Fairfield, CT {From 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., offering free samples of the newest product from The Farmer’s Cow, The Farmer’s Cow Ice Cream Cooke Sandwiches, featuring cookies baked with love by Sweet & Simple.}

Maple View Farm, 192 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT {Free admission from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Home to horses, cows, goats, pigs and chickens.}

Ebenezer Avery House, Fort Griswold State Park, 57 Fort St., Groton, CT {From noon until 4 p.m., join Joseph Potter, a Colonial American magician, as he provides educational magical entertainment.}

Bushnell Park Carousel, 1 Jewell St., Hartford, CT {Free ride for the first 100 visitors. Carousel will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.}

Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, 77 Forest St., Hartford, CT {Free admission from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.}

Lutz Children’s Museum, 247 South Main St. (Rte. 83), Manchester, CT {Free admission from noon until 5 p.m., including “Touch-a-Truck” where visitors can climb inside big trucks and heavy equipment.} *I took my family to this last year and loved it!!*

Green Street Arts Center, 51 Green St., Middletown, CT {Open from noon until 4 p.m., offering a special art exhibit and several hands-on art, math and science activities for the children.}

Mystic Aquarium, 55 Coogan Blvd., Mystic, CT {Open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Offering $5 off general admission for up to four people. Visitors will need to mention Connecticut Open House Day and provide proof of residency to receive the discount. It cannot be combined with any other offer.}

Dinosaur State Park, 400 West St., Rocky Hill, CT {Free admission from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.}

Ellsworth Hill Orchard & Berry Farm, 461 Cornwall Bridge Rd. (Rte. 4), Sharon, CT {Visitors will receive special discount on pick-your-own strawberries. Open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.}

Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford, CT {Free admission for the first 100 visitors from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.}

Sweet Emotions Candy, 9 Dog Lane, Suite 106B, Storrs, CT {Open from 10 a.m. until 12 a.m., offering complimentary “Made in Connecticut” candy treat.}

Paradise Hills Vineyard & Winery, 15 Wind Swept Hill Rd., Wallingford, CT {Open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., offering free children’s activities (noon-1 p.m.), hay rides (1 p.m.-3 p.m.), live entertainment with Dizzy Fish (3 p.m.-6 p.m.), and raffle drawing throughout the day.}

Southwind Farms LLC, 223 Morris Town Line Rd., Watertown, CT {Free admission to one of Connecticut’s largest alpaca farms from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.}

Farmer’s Cow at Fairvue Farms, 199 Route 171, Woodstock, CT {Visit the farm from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. a wagon ride to tour the dairy barn, learn about what a cow eats in a day, and the “milking parlor” where 40 cows at a time are milked}

 Fun Things to Do with Your Significant Other on June 8th (if you can get away from the kiddos!):

Sunset Meadows Vineyards, 599 Old Middle St., (Rte. 63), Goshen, CT {From 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., visitors receive a complimentary Sunset Meadow Vineyards’ tote bag, a 10% discount off six bottles purchase, and complimentary tours of the vineyard (2 p.m. and 4 p.m.).}

Connecticut River Expeditions, Departs from Eagle Landing State Park, 1 Marine Park (Rte. 82), Haddam, CT {RiverQuest will be offering a special reduced admission of $5 per person for an hour cruise on the Connecticut River. Cruises depart at 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 12:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.}

New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington St., New Britain, CT {Free admission from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., museum open until 5 p.m.}

Jerram Winery, 535 Town Hill Rd., (Rte. 219), New Hartford, CT {Open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., offering the first 24 visitors a free wine tasting.}

Spa at Norwich Inn, 607 West Thames St., Norwich, CT {From 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., the Spa is offering a 15% discount on day spa treatments and dining. Also, free tours of the historic property.}

Hotchkiss House Museum, Prospect Historical Society, 61 Waterbury Rd., Prospect, CT {FREE brunch from 10-12, FREE admission to the main house and barn from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.}
