One of the most exciting things about motherhood thus far has been watching my son and daughter flourish into brother and sister. At this point in life, ages 4 and 16 months, my son and daughter absolutely love one another.
Don gets a kick out of ‘baby Edith’ and her crazy babbling, chubby cheeks, curiosity, boldness, and love of almost all food and Edith finds Don hysterical, loves chasing him around the house, hiding under the blanket, holding hands and cuddling. They are a perfect little pair who get genuinely excited to see each other first thing in the morning and at the end of the school day.
I am not naive, so I do realize that their relationship will change and they will experience conflicts, but as an optimist, I can’t help but believe that the love they have for one another is real and will grow stronger with age. I am so excited that I get to watch their relationship as brother and sister grow and change. It brings me and our family such a beautiful happiness.
I am also happy that I will have the memories of these times with me forever, so, if and when they do begin to argue or not get along, I can pull out a photo or re-read this blog post and remember that they are brother and sister–a beautiful relationship built on love and friendship.
