Note: This week CTWorkingMoms is launching a series on gratitude and how a special person close to us has shaped and affected the way we parent.
The person that has positively affected me as a parent and shown me what unconditional love truly is would be my dear mother. She is someone who has taught me how to parent, yet be a friend to my child. She has shown me that humor and laughter can be such a strong bond between a mother and daughter. Without her love, guidance and support, I would not be the mother I am today.
There are times when I see my mother’s personality come out in me as I mother and parent my child. I am a bit humorous, direct and to the point, yet patient and kind.
Over the years she has been there for me during such critical times in my life. During the years when I was being bullied at school and didn’t have many friends, to the time when I came home from the hospital after delivering Maddie and couldn’t walk due to the pain, she was there laying with me in bed, telling me everything would be OK. She is a friend, a mother, a confidant, someone I will always look up to and admire.
I am so grateful to have her in my life and honored that she is my mother.
