A few days ago I was venting to someone who I look up to and told her that I felt stressed that we haven’t found a house yet. I told her that we have sixty days until we close on our current home to find our next house and that the pressure was starting to build up.

She told me that I needed to stay positive, to close my eyes and picture signing a contract, putting my hand out for the new house keys and popping the champaign bottle! I told her that she was crazy and that it wouldn’t happen, but that I would give it a try for her.

Not even two days later my wildest dream came true. We bought a house!

This morning I woke up positive and with a new outlook. I took my mother and daughter for a short car ride around a neighborhood I always dreamed of moving into. As we drove around, I saw movers taking furniture out of a lovely home and I decided to pull over and go inside.

I told the movers that I loved the house, had to have it and wanted a phone number of the person who hired them. The kind woman told me to come back at 1:30 p.m. as the person responsible for the house would be there. I quickly called my realtor and we decided to meet at the house at 1:30 p.m. As we pulled up, we were saying how much we both loved this house, street and neighborhood and that we just had to get this house!

As we knocked on the door a nice older man answered the door, and we told him our story – how much we loved the house, that our current home was under deposit and that we need to find a home fast and that we wanted to move into this neighborhood so my husband could remain a member on the town’s fire department.

He jokingly told us to come back at 5:00 p.m. with a check and that it would be so wonderful to sell it to a young family and not have to deal with house showings and putting the house on the market.

I quickly called my husband and parents, sharing the exciting news with them; and told them to meet me back at this house at 5:00 p.m.

When we walked back into the house,  I fell in love even more and my husband and parents loved it too. My daughter was even running around the house with the biggest smile on her face.

Moments later, we put in an offer, he accepted and there we were – signing the contract in what will soon be our new kitchen!  It was one of the best feelings I have ever experienced, other than on my wedding day and the birth of our child. I couldn’t believe it, I bought a house all because of positive thinking!

The moral of the story is that negativity gets you nowhere. We all need to stay positive and  believe that we can and will achieve our dreams.  Sometimes we are our own barriers in achieving those dreams. Let the stress and worry go, it will happen, all you have to do is believe.
