So I might have had a little too much wine tonight. I always try to write this blog the night before it’s due because I never know when life will come forth with its little “surprises.” As I see it, there are life’s good little surprises and also life’s bad little surprises. And surprises they are!
The last few weeks have been full of them for this old lady.
There are incredibly wonderful surprises in life. One such surprise was a floral arrangement that was delivered to my house from a friend who I consider my brother by a different mother who lives in OR. It was addressed to my 96-year old mother and me and it was fabulously beautiful! (I don’t’ think that many other things in a woman’s life means more to her than receiving flowers. It’s just so wonderful!)
There are surprise visits from my daughters with their babies (my beautiful grandchildren). Those are some of the best surprises!
There are surprises that take my breath away! Like filling a workshop for a pastel class in another state that I’ve never been to. I look so forward to visiting artists from another part of the country since I have never been able to travel before.
And then there are those surprises that eat up your day.
I got up at 6 .am. yesterday, raring to go. Had the who day planned out. (That’s something you should never do!) And before I knew it…
It all fell apart before noon!
Can someone tell me what happens in the universe to make this happen????
The day before I had an appointment at 1:00 p.m. to have a company come to my house to spray in mulch. Getting too old for the wheelbarrow thing. So I killed myself to get back to my house by the time these people were supposed to arrive!
1:30. 1:45… You get it! I called them only to find out that they were behind because of rain and the woman said they had called me to let me know.
“What’s your number,” she asks. I tell her. “Oh, sorry. The number we have on file is incorrect!” They never left me a message. Another surprise.
I couldn’t believe this. I got up at 6 a.m. and am exhausted and they told me that they aren’t coming to do this today? Great!
Not a good surprise.
They were supposed to call me that same evening but never did. Okay. I went to work the next day. My schedule was crammed packed! Not a minute to breathe because I was piled with ad work. So you know what came next.
Noon. I got a call.
“Hello, we can be at your house right away to do the mulch application!” Sorry? This day has been planned out already. You didn’t give me any clue! I hate this stuff. This is not a good surprise. Stress at the highest level.
So I crammed my entire day into 4 hours. Not good. I came home to spend the next two and a half hours plucking weeds out of the stupid garden just ahead of them blowing in the mulch. This surprise was too stressful for me.
It all worked out well in the end, but it doesn’t always work out that way.
So I guess we have to take the “surprises” in life as they come. Some times it’s wonderful and sometimes it’s just pretty crappy. Guess that’s what life is all about. I only hope that there are more of the good ones versus the other.
I wish all of you lovely ladies only happy surprises today.
DON’T PLAN TOO MUCH! It seems to be the catalyst for ruination!
