It all started at UConn

Everyone knows that Melissa and Doug toys are top notch.  They are well-made, educational and so much fun!  But did you know that Doug Bernstein (co-founder of Melissa and Doug) is a UConn Alum?  That’s right, Doug graduated from UConn in 1985 and a few years later, he and his wife, Melissa, started their business in the garage of Doug’s childhood home.  What an inspiring story of a very successful local entrepreneur!  Read this article to find out more about Doug’s experience at UConn.

Also, if you have not checked out Melissa and Doug’s website, they have a birthday club with great coupon offers and you can also find super deals and giveaways by liking them of Facebook.

Not that I needed another reason to buy these fantastic toys but why not show a little Husky spirit and support a company built in our own backyard?

  1. I would like to thank Melissa and Doug for making non-gender specific toys. My son LOVES the Cook’s Corner kitchen, and I love that it’s not in the “girls” aisle and allows for so much free play!! 🙂 Love this company.

  2. love love love Melissa & Doug! Jake’s 5 foot tall giraffe came from them, and he has lots of their wooden toys, too. a wonderful company!

  3. Thanks for sharing this! Yes, their toys are awesome, and the people behind them are even better. I’m so, so proud to be a UConn SUBOG alum like Doug!
