Mother’s Day will be the one-year anniversary of the first time I ever encouraged my daughter engage in random acts of kindness. We picked up a bunch of carnations at the store and went to our local playground and she happily handed single flowers the moms we encountered. It was awesome to see how happy this simple act made people and I felt really good teaching her about the importance of kindness.
I love doing random acts of kindness any time of the year but doing something around Mother’s Day feels extra special to me. I like the idea of celebrating moms (because MOMS ROCK!) and I like thinking about the day as something that’s not just for me, as one individual mom, but a day for all of us.
So this year CT Working Moms is starting our Mother’s Day Kindness Challenge and I couldn’t be more excited! For the first 10 days of May we’ll be posting kindness ideas on our Facebook page first thing in the morning. You can pick and choose which acts of kindness you want to try or you can challenge yourself to do them all! Then on May 11th (Mother’s Day), if you feel so inspired, perhaps consider doing something nice for other moms.
A team of CT Working Moms bloggers will be heading out to various spots that day (playgrounds, nursing homes) to hand out flowers to random mamas (thanks to Whole Foods Glastonbury for partnering with us by happily donating flowers!). We’ll be involving our kids for this and just the image of my fellow bloggers walking around making other people happy fills my heart with such joy! I told you I’m excited!
So if you aren’t already following us over on Facebook make sure to head over and “like” us because that’s where you’ll want to follow along starting May 1st.
I hope you’ll consider participating in some way. One small act of kindness has the power to make such a difference in the world.
