  1. It is so true that you will never get everything done. My laundry is consistently one week behind. My house is messy most of the time and our calendar fills up quickly with pediatrician appointments, birthday parties and play dates. Life is busy but I have a good life. Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed, I remember that this is temporary and I have the best of both worlds. Who cares if I have mountains of laundry piled up or dog hair on my floor? One day my children will be grown and independent and there will be plenty of time to return to work full time.

As far as who has it easier, I think it depends on the person and the circumstances (i.e. how many children, personality, town, finances, etc.) For me personally, I think being a SAHM would be more challenging but for others, they may find juggling work and homelife more difficult.

  2. So much depends on the situation for this. Being a working mom with no support and no sick time or paid vacation would be horrendous. Being a SAHM and being completely isolated in a new place with no peer group or car would be awful. However, being a working mom with quality, reliable childcare and a fulfilling job or a SAHM without having to totally lose your identity would be great. The key is to look at your own personal situation and see what the best decision for your family is at that moment in time. I don’t think there’s always an easy answer. I am a student mom, and I have to say, I LOVE the time I spend in class away from the boys. Of course I love being home with them, but I also love knowing that I am still my own person and that I still am something beyond a mom. Not everyone needs that- some people find being a mom 100% fulfilling- but I need another “side” to who I am.

  3. I’ve done both, and there are days i throw my hands in the air and say I want to be a SAHM and days I am thankful to have work to retreat to. I think they are both hard in their own ways- kind of a grass seems greener on the other side.

I enjoyed the article- thanks for posting!
