This is the Life!

If you had asked me 5 years ago if I ever thought I would be able to sleep until 8:30 again – I would likely have laughed in your face. And, when we added AK to our brood 3.5 years ago, I was pretty confident that even 8 am would remain a pipe dream until my youngest reached 10.

But here we are. With me and the Hoos staying in bed not only until 8:30 – but until AFTER 9.

One of the many miracles of having two children is that they entertain each other. If 5.5 year old LP is awake and hears that 3.5 year old AK is awake in the room next door, she climbs into bed with her baby sister and they start playing barbies. Or dress up. Or who knows (but who cares really?) what.

On occasion they will come into our room to ask if they can go downstairs to watch TV. This is awesome. It is also an automatic guarantee that we will get to stay in bed for at least another half hour. Or until they start fighting over what to watch (LP favors “the animal channel” and AK favors cartoons).

The goal of this post is not to brag, but instead to offer hope. You too can sleep until a decent time in the foreseeable future!

    1. We have friends who have adjusted their schedules to be morning people because their kids get up so early. The Hoos and I just out and out refused. With the occasional exception (e.g., there was NO HOPE) If the kids woke up at 5:30, we told them it was still nighttime. I think that might have something to do with how they have adapted.
